Nitnem

Bani’s that are recited daily by initiated Sikhs

Nitnem

Nitnem is a collection of Bani’s in the Sikh religion that are to be recited daily by initiated Sikhs. The word Nitnem comes from the Punjabi language and it means “daily routine”.

The Nitnem includes five Bani’s, which are recited during the morning at sunrise and one Bani in the evening at sunset and one just before going to bed.

Nitnem is performed in the morning, afternoon, and evening as a way to connect with God and seek guidance, inspiration, and inner peace. Nitnem helps to foster a strong sense of discipline and devotion in the individual, as well as promoting community values and spiritual unity. The daily recitation of Nitnem hymns is considered a duty for all baptized Sikhs, and is an important aspect of Sikh practice and tradition.
